Dit jaar organiseerde de CSVN het 1e Computergebruikerstoernooi 1999. Na het verdwijnen van het AEGON Toernooi is er toch een behoefte ontstaan om een weekend te organiseren voor onze leden. Uiteindelijk werd besloten een toernooi te houden voor gebruikers van commerciële tafelschaakcomputers.
Twaalf van deze vaak al soms meer dan 15 jaar oude schaakmachines kruisten in het weekend van 30/31 oktober jl in het Leids Denksportcentrum de degens.
Jan Louwman was gekomen met een nieuwe, de Mephisto Magellan, waarin een Frans Morsch programma was gehuisvest. Tevens deden mee de oude Vancouver 68030 en de Centurion die drie keer verkeerd werd ingesteld en daardoor kansloos verloor. Onze voorzitter Cock de Gorter vertilde zich bijna aan zijn Fidelity Prestige met het Mach III programma en ons lid Rob van Son was gekomen met de Mephisto Berlin 68020, de Milano en weet u nog wel: de Super Enteprise.
Oude computerverzamelaar Hein Veldhuis uit Tilburg kwam met de Saitek Renaissance en John en Esther Dijkstra uit Amersfoort hadden de Fidelity Mach IV, Novag Super Expert C en de Scisys Mark V bij zich. De Mark V was de eerste officiële wereldkampioen in 1981 te Travemunde. Al ging het meer om de eer dan om de prijzen, er werd toch fanatiek gestreden. Er werden slechts twee remises gespeeld! Iedere ronde was er wel een verrassende uitslag te noteren. De eerste ronde was de partij tussen de Super Expert en de Dominator, een lust voor het oog. De machines kregen beiden een uur bedenktijd voor de gehele partij.

Cock de Gorter was er heilig van overtuigd dat zijn Prestige het toernooi wel eens zou kunnen winnen. Haagse bluf of niet, het ding had de grootste moeite om de Milano eronder te houden.

Uiteindelijk werd de eerste plaats gedeeld door de Magellan en de Berlin. Met een ELO van boven de 2200 waren beide programma’s net iets te sterk voor de rest. Beide operators kregen hiervoor een boekenbon uitgereikt. Volgend jaar zullen we dit zeker herhalen, dan met twee groepen, topprogramma’s en historische exemplaren.
